The History of Halloween
Share
Halloween has a rich and fascinating history that dates back over 2,000 years. The holiday originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. This was the Celts’ way of marking the end of the harvest season and the start of winter, a time they associated with death.
When Christianity spread to Celtic lands, the festival was combined with All Saints' Day (November 1st), and the evening before became known as All Hallows' Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween. Over time, it evolved, incorporating customs like trick-or-treating, which became popular in America in the early 20th century.
Today, Halloween is a celebration enjoyed by people of all ages, filled with fun, costumes, and community activities.
